What a beautiful community we have! Together we raised $650 for Shala Yoga Calgary.

Thank you, our hearts go out to everyone of you who come out to support another yoga community in need.

On April 9 & 10 ALL Classes are by Donation.

“Running a small business is no small feat at the best of times let alone during a pandemic in one of the hardest hit industries.”

Bobbi Bachynsk, the Yoga Shala Calgary

The Yoga Shala has been serving Calgary since 2003, with a mission to provide a supportive and inclusive community much like our small Shala here in Edmonton.

In March of 2020 the Yoga Shala Calgary, along with countless other small businesses, was forced to shut its doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They quickly pivoted to free online classes to keep their community intact and help people weather the pandemic storm. At the end of April 2020, the Shala was forced out of their 19th Street location by their landlord, who was unwilling to re-negotiate the Shala’s lease or apply for any government relief. The Shala team moved to a temporary space and continued to offer online and in-person classes when permitted over this last year.

In March 2021, the Yoga Shala Calgary were notified by their ex-landlord they were being sued for breach of contract. This is truly heartbreaking. They are now facing a potentially large legal bill to fight this lawsuit while trying to forge through the pandemic and keep their studio open.

We can identify strongly with the Yoga Shala Calgary as we also faced decisions of what to do at the beginning of the pandemic and still face challenges.

On April 9 & 10 Shala will be fundraising to help Yoga Shala Calgary in their fight to save their studio. All classes at our Shala will be changed to drop in prices or by donation only (no passes will be accepted on these days). Please come out/ sign up and show your support of small local yoga studios and for the love of yoga and your practice.
