Shala Ashtanga Yoga Centre Inc.

Edmonton AB

Contract Teaching Positions

The Shala Ashtanga Yoga Centre Inc (SAYC) is an Ashtanga Yoga Studio committed to the lineage of the late Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois and his grandson R. Sharath Jois. We are Edmonton’s only studio dedicated to the practice, teaching and dissemination of the Ashtanga Yoga system. We are dedicated to offering the practice to all students regardless of experience with compassion, support, encouragement, knowledge and passion.

The Shala has been in operation for 2 years and will be moving to the heart of downtown Edmonton early 2018. Once downtown the centre will be offering classes for every level of student from Beginner to Intermediate. Although Ashtanga and the Mysore Practice is the core and backbone of our studio, once in our new location we will be offering Ashtanga Inspired Vinyasa (Flow), SATTVA, Yin and Restorative classes as a through line to support the students and growing community.

We are looking for teachers who are knowledgeable, experienced and dedicated to a regular practice, and are committed to the continued learning of yoga. Teachers will lead 1-4 classes per week depending on their teaching discipline, experience and availability.

We are looking for teachers for the following yoga disciplines:

  • Led Half Primary Series

  • Led Foundation Classes

The Ashtanga Inspired sequences will change monthly depending on the focus and direction of the overall practice as decided by the lead Teachers of the Shala. We will be taking into consideration what the common interests, concerns, issues and focuses of the students are to create new sequences monthly that will be followed by all Ashtanga Inspired Vinyasa teachers. All classes will focus on Tristana and follow the same foundational vinyasa sequences that are integral to Ashtanga. We still encourage individual variations and creativity as the class progresses  through the month.

Teachers of Ashtanga Inspired must attend one “Teacher Practice” a month to go over the sequence.

Class Duration: 45-90 min

SATTVA Classes -  1-3 class commitment

Teachers must be certified by the SATTVA School and follow the SATTVA sequence as disseminated by the Sattva School of Yoga. Sequences are made available at the start of each month, and teachers are encouraged to attend one SATTVA “Teacher Practice” at SAYC a month.

Class Duration: 45-90 min

Yin & Restorative Classes 1-3 class commitment

Teachers must have a focus in Yin or a Restorative practice. Eventually Yin and Restorative class focus will align with Ashtanga Inspired and SATTVA sequences. Priority will be given to those with Yin and/or Restorative Yoga Alliance certifications.
