Shala Ashtanga Yoga Centre Inc (SAYC) is an Ashtanga Yoga Studio committed to the lineage of the late Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois and his grandson R. Sharath Jois. We are Edmonton’s only studio dedicated to the practice, teaching and dissemination of the Ashtanga Yoga system. We are dedicated to offering the practice to all students regardless of experience with compassion, support, encouragement, knowledge and passion.
Shala has been in operation since 2016 offering classes for every level of student from beginner to advanced. Although Ashtanga and the Mysore Practice is the core and backbone of our studio, we do feel it's important to offer various yoga disciplines as a through line to support the students and growing community.
We are looking for teachers who are knowledgeable, experienced and dedicated to a regular practice, and are committed to the continued learning of yoga. Teachers will lead 1-4 classes per week depending on their teaching discipline, experience and availability.
We are looking for teachers for the following yoga disciplines:
Ashtanga Classes - 1-4 class commitment
Teachers must have an established Ashtanga Practice, be Authorized or Certified by KPJAYI or a 200 hr Yoga Alliance Teacher Training Certification with an Ashtanga Focus or any combination of the above.

Class Duration: 45 min - 2 hours
Ashtanga Inspired (Flow) - 1-2 class commitment
The Ashtanga Inspired sequences are adapted from Matthew Sweeney's Vinyasa Krama sequences. A willingness to learn new sequences and a good understanding of Ashtanga and or Vinyasa Style practices is required to teach these classes. All classes will focus on Tristana and follow the same foundational vinyasa sequences that are integral to Ashtanga.
Class Duration: 45-90 min
SATTVA & Vinyasa Flow Classes - 1-3 class commitment
Teachers must be certified by the SATTVA School and follow the SATTVA sequence as disseminated by the Sattva School of Yoga to lead Sattva Classes or hold 200hr Yoga Alliance Certification to lead Vinyasa Flow classes. We are looking for teachers with a minimum of 1 year experience teaching in studio and or online.
Class Duration: 45-90 min
Yin & Restorative Classes 1-3 class commitment
Teachers must have 200hr Yoga Alliance Certification and a focus in Yin or a Restorative practice. A knowledge of an Ashtanga/ Vinyasa practice so the Yin and Restorative classes can align with students practices.
Class Duration: 45-75 min

Roles & Responsibilities

Teach & lead students within the scope of your discipline with a high standard of care, compassion and professionalism

Work cooperatively with teachers and students in a team approach to health and wellness

Maintain and grow your students
-
Attend at least one workshop per year either at SAYC or at other studios to continue to be a student of your practice

Attend Teacher meetings when called
-
Attend classes led by other Teachers at SAYC at least 1/ month to support the team and community as it is integral to share your practice with students and teacher in the community.

Arrive 15 minutes early and stay 15 minutes after class to set the tone of your class and be available to answer questions
At SAYC we operate as a team. We work together to grow individually and as a team we help each other out whenever we are able. As such at times you may be responsible to operate the front desk upon arrival until your class starts if there is no reception.
Front desk responsibility

Answering phone/ text in case students are contacting the studio to let us know they are going to be late

Sign in all student & teachers that attend the class

Take, process and enter payments into database

Lock up if you are the last class of the day or no class is to follow

Sweep the floor after every class
Qualifications

Must provide proof of Certification (200 hr Yoga Alliance Teacher Training Minimum)

Carry your own insurance according to the mandates of your profession, and make available to SAYC

Have been practicing your discipline for min of 2 years
Compensation: Reflective of education, training, and teaching experience
